Republic of China Navy
Surface Combatants | Undersea Fleet
The modern Republic of China Navy fleet is sorely lacking in many areas. The categories that are filled are typically filled with aging hulls purchased from foreign powers such as the United States and France. The service does not field any aircraft carrier or helicopter carrier force and lacks any nuclear-powered / nuclear-attack submarines found in great numbers throughout the rival Peoples Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China. Just four attack submarines are kept on hand and these are former World War 2-era GUPPY II-upgraded American Navy and former Dutch attack types. The surface fleet is led by a collection of four destroyers though, again, these are former USN Kidd-class vessels. The frigate force of 22 hulls might appear imposing on paper but, again, this is a force of refurbished foreign types made up of the USN Knox-class and Oliver Hazard Perry-class as well as the French La Fayette-class. Smaller hulls are now being constructed through local industry as needed.
